What is Joli Laide?

Joli Laide is designed for the curious, discerning woman of today.

We explore culture, watches, travel, cars, architecture and design through a refined feminine lens, celebrating craftsmanship and the beauty of the unconventional.

We’re for culturally engaged, visually driven women who are drawn to stories with depth and nuance. We know you’re looking to learn more about traditionally male-dominated interests, where women have often been overlooked.

Our Team

Georgia Griffiths and Jack Shepherdson are Australian creatives currently based in London, UK. They both have extensive experience in journalism, photography, and creative strategy, working across many facets of culture.

Jack loves getting up early to dig through the local antique market for vintage watches on the way to cars and coffee, whilst Georgia is usually found at a pub or club enjoying live music into the early hours of the morning.

What’s in a Name?

Joli Laide is a subversion of the French phrase jolie laide (pronounced zho-lee leyd), translating literally to "pretty ugly". It is used to convey an appreciation for a type of attractiveness that is not conventionally pretty, usually in reference to a woman’s appearance.

We use the male ‘joli’ rather than the female ‘jolie’ - a reclamation of the usual phrase.
